Something Old and Something New

Something Old.

An Autumn Leaf Quilt.
64 X 64 Inches Square

I made this quilt while we were living in California.
Not a lot of red or rust colors in the leaves where we lived.

It's time for this quilt to get washed; so once again
I am adding quite a bit of new stitching.
It is almost done and into the washing machine it will go.

What's New?

I found this pre cut quilt kit on eBay;
at a really good price.
This is the design it will make.
Called Sunrise-Sunset...all in golds and muslin.

I want to finish the old quilt first.
So I just keep this package closed for now.
Two more days on the old quilt and then I can begin on the new.

I want to wish everyone a very Happy New Year.
I hope that 2018 will bring great blessings into all of our lives.

Thank you for your visit.

~ Sandra ~

    1. You can get these kits normally at Hearthside Quilts. You can only pick a color; such as gold. They assemble the pieces of their choice and send you all the pieces pre cut and ready to sew together. I have ordered a number of kits from them over many years. They use calico's and solid color fabrics and then the muslin is a neutral. Sometimes you will find these kits for sale on eBay. Pre cut quilts are like putting together a puzzle. The pieces are all there they just need assembly.

  2. Good for you! A kit gives you a head start on piecing a new top. The colors are very nice.

    1. Sometimes that is just what you need in life. Something to open and start putting the pieces together. No worries as to how much fabric to buy or choosing colors. I think this one will have a good end result.

  3. It looks like you are enjoying your first of the year projects. When it is so cold outside, it is nice to have a few little projects to work on inside where it is warm and cosy.

    1. Yes Teri, I love having projects to look forward to. Quilts can be quite expensive to make; when I find a special price sale I like to jump on it. Quilting...especially the hand quilting is one of the best ways to stay warm when the temperatures are cold.

  4. If I should decide to make a quilt, a precut kit would probably be perfect for me, since I would definitely need any help I could get. I really like the sunrise/sunset pattern and look forward to seeing how this quilt turns out. I'm glad to see that the weather is not so brutal there as it was! Happy stitching!

    1. I only wish they had more fabric choices to choose from. If the company cuts the fabrics well, a pre-cut kit helps speed up the process. We never made it to the -50 wind chill factor...but I do believe this winter has felt the coldest in all our years here. And then Mother Nature changes things and tomorrow can be in the 30 degrees. That will actually feel warm.

    1. The leaf quilt is not too hard at all. I enjoyed making that quilt. As most new quilters (me back then) you are always anxious to start on your next new quilt. I feel less anxious now and want to make sure the quilts I leave behind are well quilted. So I am looking over older quilts and seeing if I can make them better.

  7. Good plan! Love those colors! Every season has its won beauty, but there is something about the fall, isn't there? Love those golds. Color is so much fun to think about and plan around with crafts, decorating, etc. Hope y'all are keeping warm up there!

    1. Thanks. Gold makes a nice neutral color that can go with many different styles. Fall does seem to touch people's heart the most. Quilting helps keep off the chill of the cold winter days.
